COVID-19: Teaching under lockdown ignites creativity

JOHANNESBURG – When the lockdown started 100 days ago, classrooms were cleared and books and stationery were packed away.

It was a difficult time for many teachers, who had to be without the children they care for as their own.

Classes are scheduled to resume for some grades next week.

Grade 1 teacher Mandy Bosma welcomed back her pupils for an orientation day. ​

Bosma misses the children, and the children miss her but, with the help of parents, they’ve stayed in touch with videos.

COVID-19 will change the way learning takes place but it won’t stop the thousands of dedicated teachers in South Africa.

They’ll just find new ways to nurture and guide young minds.
