Gauteng COVID-19 infections stabilising: Masuku

JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Health MEC, Bandile Masuku says the number of COVID-19 infections is stabilising.

The province is the epicentre of coronavirus in the country.

Masuku supports the tightened lockdown restrictions put in place by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“We actually welcome the new regulation as announced by the president last week from the NCC and from the national cabinet in terms of removing some of the few freedoms that are people’s were enjoying that came with level 3 lockdown in terms of alcohol in terms of movement with the introduction of curfew.”

Meanwhile, Education MEC Panyza Lesufi was firm that schools will remain open.

He’s condemned protests calling for the closure of schools.

“We need to be careful of one thing that those that have systems must not impose their will on those who do not have systems because when you say learners must leave the environment which is controlled where every morning they screened every morning they sanitized they learn something they get their meal they get transport to go home if you say they must leave that organised system to go back home…”
