Manchester United are willing to axe Andreas Pereira in order to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to reports.

The Dutch international has emerged as one of the top rising talents in European football after helping fire Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals last season and continuing that excellent form into this campaign.

Before the Eredivisie was cancelled over the coronavirus crisis, Van de Beek had registered eight goals and five assists in 22 league games, with his impressive performances attracting interest from the Red Devils and Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old, along with Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, are considered to be amongst United’s top targets for this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his midfield.

According to The Mirror, Van de Beek is valued at around £44 million and in order to raise the funds to sign him, the Red Devils could have to sacrifice Andreas Pereira.

The Brazilian has deputised expertly in the absence of injured stars Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

Pereira has shown his versatility after being deployed in almost every midfield position, but could be deemed surplus to requirements if the club are to pursue their priority transfer targets.

Leverkusen are demanding around £75m for Havertz, which makes Van de Beek the much cheaper option.

Chelsea have also registered their interest in the 21-year-old, but with the sheer number of clubs keen on signing him, the club are not reportedly favourites to sign the midfielder.
