Royal Ascot tips day one: Best bets and odds for King’s Stand, Queen Anne and more

Royal Ascot gets under way behind closed doors for the first time in the event’s history on Tuesday, with fans not allowed to attend because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The condensed fixture list following the sport’s restart has seen the card reshuffled and extended this week, with a bumper 36 races set to take place across five days, including the usual eight Group One contests.

Two of them come on the opening day, the first being the Queen Anne Stakes at 1:50pm, where last year’s St. James’ Palace Stakes winner Circus Maximus is favourite to add another royal meeting success to his CV.

Later in the day, the King’s Stand Stakes will see star sprinter Battaash looking to finally secure his first win in the race, having finished second behind the now-retired Blue Point in each of the past two renewals.

Elsewhere on the card, possible Oaks contender Frankly Darling is a short-priced favourite for the masterful combination of John Gosden and Frankie Dettori in the Ribblesdale Stakes, while Derby hopeful Mogul will make his seasonal reappearance in the King Edward VII Stakes.

Before all of that, the meeting will be opened with the Buckingham Palace Handicap, returned to the card having been axed in 2015 to make way for the Commonwealth Cup.
