Arsenal want £80m Grealish

Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing Jack Grealish this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

Grealish is reportedly undecided over his future at Villa Park after helping his side stay in the Premier League.

A fee could prove problematic for the Gunners and his other suitors however, with Manchester United also keen to sign the midfielder.

Sky Sports claim several clubs are willing to pay between £50m and £60m – but Villa do not want to sell him for less than a whopping £80m.

Celtic closing in on goalkeeper addition

Celtic are close to signing goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens, according to Sky Sports News.

The Bhoys have reportedly agreed an initial fee of £3m with a deal likely to be pushed through as soon as Thursday.

Seven new players for Barcelona next season, says Bartomeu

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says the Catalan club have “seven new players” for next season.

Spending at Camp Nou is likely to be significantly reduced this summer following the coronavirus crisis, with expensive signings unlikely unless swap deals can be made.

But Bartomeu told Mundo Deportivo: “We have seven new players. In January, Barca made a series of bets for the future and since we did so, people are seeing the quality they have.

“Pedri, who is a young player with an incredible talent. [Francisco] Trincao who was very little known, we signed in January and he’s now the best Under-21 player in Europe.

“And Matheus Fernandes, who has played very little because he has had problems with his paperwork, he now has them sorted. He has had just a few appearances, but quality ones, with Valladolid.

“And [Miralem] Pjanic is a player who will come and will be consolidated in the first team from the first minute.”

None of those players have appeared yet for Barca’s first team, but all could potentially feature in 2020-21, along with players promoted from Barca B.

“There’s a lot of excitement about the players from Barca B who are coming up,” Bartomeu said. “There’s [Ronald] Araujo, a centre-back who will surely have a place in the first team [squad], plus Riqui Puig and Ansu Fati.”

Now to the other half of Manchester, where there could be a new arrival on the defensive front in the weeks ahead.

According to The Mirror, United have joined a crowded race to sign highly-rated Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes.

The report adds that Everton had looked set to sign the Brazilian for £20m prior to the coronavirus lockdown, only for Arsenal, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain to now be chasing his services.

Ferran Torres to Man City – full update

Here is the very latest on the Ferran Torres to Manchester City front as Standard Sport understands it…

Manchester City are close to signing Valencia winger Ferran Torres in a €25 million deal plus add-ons, write James Robson and Ben Hayward.

Ferran is out of contract next summer and Valencia have reluctantly agreed to sell after the talented 20-year-old told the Mestalla club he would not be renewing his current deal.

City have been tracking the Spain Under-20 international for some time and have taken advantage of his situation at Valencia to strike an agreement for the youngster.

With the winger’s contract up next year, Valencia knew they had to sell their most exciting homegrown talent this summer or risk losing him for nothing in 2021.

That made the player’s €100m (£90.7m) release clause irrelevant and Standard Sport understands City were not prepared to go above £23m (€25.3m).

Valencia had hoped to sell the winger for a higher amount, but the current market situation due to Covid-19 meant there was no real competition for his signing.

City will play in the region of €25m (£22.7m) for the attacker, plus around €12m (£10.9m) in add-ons if the player reaches a number of stringent objectives at the Etihad Stadium.

Ferran is right-footed and played mainly on the right for Valencia, but the winger can operate on the left and also inside.

The 20-year-old could therefore be used in a number of positions by City coach Pep Guardiola, including on the left where he would be able to provide back-up for Raheem Sterling and allow the England winger to rest more often.

Torres scored six goals in 44 appearances for Valencia in 2019-20.

Some good news for Manchester City fans now.

According to widespread reports, the club have agreed a deal with Valencia to sign winger Ferran Torres.

Spanish outlet Marca claim that an initial fee of €25m has been agreed between the two clubs, with the potential for City to pay a further €12m in add-ons.

Torres is set to sign a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium as a replacement for Leroy Sane, who officially joined Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Maddison ‘agrees new Leicester deal’

James Maddison has agreed a deal in principle to extend his Leicester contract until 2024, according to Sky Sports.

The England midfielder had excelled in Brendan Rodgers and had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

The report claims the 23-year-old, who still had three years to run on his existing deal, will sign on considerably improved terms.

Haaland vows to see out Dortmund deal

Norweigian sensation Erling Haaland has says he wants to stay at Borussia Dortmund until the end of his contract.

The striker is wanted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs, as he was prior to joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January.

“I have a long-term contract here until 2024. In any case, it is my big goal to win BVB the title and to celebrate fantastic successes with our fans,” he told Bild.

Ex-United scout: ‘I begged club to sign Pulisic’

A former Manchester United scout has told of how he begged club chiefs to sign American star Christian Pulisic before the winger joined Chelsea.

Pulisic has excelled since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Borussia Dortmund, particularly impressing since the lockdown period, and at only 21 is sure to be a major part of Frank Lampard’s ongoing rebuild.

“When I first got hired one of the people that I recommended right away was Pulisic because I knew him and his background,” Jorge Alvial told MEN.

“I knew how well he was developing in Dortmund and he was just going to keep coming up, and become a superstar because he was doing very well.

“It wasn’t a case of ‘look at this kid’, it was ‘sign this kid’.

“For Pulisic I jumped many levels that we are supposed to do and I went directly to the head scout.

“I said: ‘Listen, this player is extraordinary… we need to make a decision right away because if we don’t someone else is going to see him, and is going to beat us’, which has also happened with Alphonso (Davies).”

Sancho ‘could still prefer Liverpool move’

A latest report from Kicker this afternoon claims Manchester United have two weeks to meet Borussia Dortmund’s €120m, as also reported by Sky Sports today.

The report from Germany adds however Dortmund have no concerns over Sancho attempting to force the move away, as the club have experienced in the past with Ousmane Dembele and to a lesser extent, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Interestingly, they also add that ‘rumours persist’ the 20-year-old would rather move to Liverpool than United due to the Reds’ better position in challenging for major honours.

Man United told to sign Kane

Manchester United have been told to sign Harry Kane and become Premier League title contenders overnight.

The Tottenham striker has long had admirers at Old Trafford and Standard Sport understands a summer move for Kane had been discussed before the coronavirus pandemic hit football finances across the globe.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer guided United to third this season, an improvement on final position but not points from last term, and wants to spend big to close the 33-point gap on champions Liverpool.

Jadon Sancho is United’s key summer target, but Paul Merson says Kane would be the perfect signing.

“I think Manchester United need a centre-forward, I really do,” Merson told Sky Sports. “And if they put in a massive bid for Harry Kane, they become massive players next season in the Premier League.”

ICYMI: Chilwell to demand Chelsea move

Ben Chilwell is set to tell Leicester this week he wants to quit for Chelsea, according to The Mirror.

Frank Lampard is determined to sign a new left-back this summer and has earmarked Chilwell as his top target for the position in his squad.

Although Chilwell is under contract until 2024, it is understood he sees his future at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues will have to fork out a significant fee for the England international, with the Foxes set to demand around £80million.

Man United still interested in King?

Manchester United will revive their interest in Josh King, according to Norway assistant coach Per Joar Hansen.

United saw a £20m bid for the Bournemouth striker rejected in January as they sought reinforcements up front.

Odion Ighalo eventually arrived to offer an other option in attack but Hansen believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ‘strong connection’ with King means the story might not be over yet.

“The link to United is strong. King has played there as an academy player,” Hansen told Dagbladet.

“His former coach in the reserve team is now head coach of the club and he has got himself a new agent in Jim Solbakken, who is also Solskjaer’s agent.

“You should never say never. Ole Gunnar knows Josh well from the reserve team, and he has contributed to his development.

“In addition, Josh knows well what United stands for. But we’re not going to get bogged down in it, it’s just speculation.”

Everton interested in signing former Chelsea star

Everton are reportedly in talks to bring Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic back to the Premier League.

Now 36, Ivanovic has just parted ways with Zenit St Petersburg with the Toffees interested in bringing him to Goodison Park, according to Novosti.

Man United close to agreeing Sancho deal

Is there finally light at the end of the tunnel? According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are edging closer to agreeing a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.

Dortmund are understood to be holding out for €120m, with €100m up front, and want it resolved by August 10.

The clock is ticking.

Tottenham in talks over Skipp and Parrott loans

Fulham are leading the race to sign Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp on a season-long loan – but a deal may hinge on whether they are promoted, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho has reluctantly agreed to let Skipp leave on loan and the 19-year-old is also attracting interest from Premier League duo Southampton and Burnley, as well as Reading and Nottingham Forest.

Skipp, who signed a new four-year Spurs contract last week, wants to play regular first-team football at holding midfield and knows he is more likely to do so at a leading Championship club than in the top flight.

Young Spurs forward Troy Parrott is also set to spend next season on loan, with Millwall leading a host of clubs interested in the Republic of Ireland international.

Parrott has been given a glowing reference from compatriot Jason Molumby, who spent last season on loan at the Den, and Spurs would prefer the 18-year-old to remain in the capital.

Silva in talks with Napoli

David Silva is in talks with Lazio ahead of a potential move, report AS, with the midfielder set to leave Manchester City this summer.

The 34-year-old will leave the Manchester club after 10 years at the club, where he has played 434 games.

Head coach Simone Inzaghi has reportedly made Silva his priority signing this summer, as he looks to push on with Lazio set to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Silva also reportedly has received two offers from clubs in Dubai.

Man Utd urged to make Vertonghen move

Jan Vertonghen would be the perfect defensive partner for Harry Maguire, believes Jermaine Jenas, who urges Manchester United to make a move for the free-agent.

Tottenham have confirmed their long-serving centre-back has left the club after eight years, and Vertonghen has admitted he already has a new club in mind, refusing to rule out a Premier League stay.

Photo: Getty Images

“I keep touting him around everywhere but I’m sorry, Jan Vertonghen on a free is the best free transfer centre-half out there,” Jenas told BBC Radio 5 Live:

“If you can get Harry Maguire back on the right side and get an actual ball-playing centre-half as a left-sider, that little dynamic may change things for them as well and he’s free.

“Manchester United will know what they’re doing, they’ll have a plan but defensively they’re miles off it. I know how good he is.

“It baffles me when I see him in the stand every week because I know how good he this player is. I’ve played with him, I’ve watched him and on a free transfer, it just makes sense.”

Aubameyang prefers move abroad

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains uncertain on his future and is continuing to weigh up his options, report The Athletic.

The 31-year-old – who is preparing for an FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday – produced another stunning season, scoring 22 goals in 36 Premier League games.

The Gabon international has less than 12 months left on his contract, however, though The Athletic do report he remains happy in north London.

If he does leave Arsenal, Aubameyang wants to move abroad with Juventus Barca and Inter all keeping tabs.

When does the 2020 summer transfer window open?

Premier League clubs have agreed on the revised start and finish dates of this summer’s transfer window.

The window is now open for 10 weeks from July 27.

Following consultation with the EFL, a domestic-only window will be added from 5 October, closing 5pm on 16 October. During this window, Premier League clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs (either loans or permanent registrations). No transfers can take place between Premier League clubs in this period.

Chelsea will push ahead with moves for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz and remain interested in Leicester City’s Ben Chillwel, while Manchester United are also expected to be busy this summer.

Jadon Sancho remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s number one target, and a deal should be completed if Man United can negotiate a compromise on the £100m-plus valuation Dortmund has for the England international.
