Unions plan to shut down Dis-Chem warehouse

JOHANNESBURG – The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) plans to shut down a Dis-Chem warehouse following multiple positive COVID-19 cases.

The union says there’s been 10 positive COVID-19 cases, across several departments and claims the company has not carried out adequate screening and tracing processes.

However, Dis-Chem says it has adhered to all requirements throughout the lockdown period.

It says eight other positive cases were discovered during testing.

“It started with one person being tested positive, the warehouse was closed and sanitised,” said Dis-Chem CEO, Ivan Saltzman.

“The people and the area around the positive person was sanitised.”

Saltzman says Dis-Chem tested 58 people and they were all in quarantine before the results were released.
